All humans of every age are on a "diet."
Perhaps you actually want to know whether an overweight 12-year-old should be placed on a restricted diet. The answer: Yes. The 12-year-old should be restricted to eating healthy food.
The same answer applies in the case of non-overweight 12 year olds. Humans should eat healthy food, humans should practice portion control, and good health habits established in childhood tend to carry over into adulthood.

You should be careful about dieting at such a young age. If you are still growing in height, it may be that you are going to grow into your weight, in which case you should not go on a diet and should instead eat a healthy balanced diet with lots of fruit, veg, lean meat and whole grains. You should also exercise. Start with walking everywhere that you can and you will build up fitness and go on to be able to run. Do NOT go on a fad diet as these can be dangerous and as you are still growing, you may not get the vital nutrients you need.
There is not easy exercise plan for an overweight 12 year old! As long as a 12 year old is looking for the easiest way to do things, that person will not succeed. The only exercise plan that will work will require a change of attitude instead of the constant way of looking for the easy way out not only in exercise but in everything else. Start by pushing away from the table while you are slightly hungry. Get behind a thin girl as she goes through the cafeteria line. She knows how to stay thin. See what she chooses to eat and select the same thing. See what exercises the good athletes use. They know how to stay fit. Copy them. Start using the stars instead of the elevator. When you notice how thin people eat, how athletes work out, how scholars use their time, and you copy their examples, you will change. You will stop looking for the easy way out. Now start by trying to touch your toes. Walk more, at least 30 minutes a day but preferably longer. Walk up and down the steps whenever possible instead of taking an elevator. Do pushups. Do pull-ups. Do jumping jacks. Use your spare time to do a few other exercises. Check and see what other ones you can learn. Join organized sports. You will no longer be overweight but in charge of your own life. You will no longer ask for the easy way out.
The secret to getting a 12 year old on a diet is to introduce it slowly and not let them know they are actually on a diet. The whole family should be eating correctly. A male should have 6 - 8 ounce servings of protein at each meal (no skipped meals.) Lots of vegetables, dairy (non fat), grains; back off of too many bread products, sweets, cakes, pies, pop, candy and this includes sweet cereals. Introduce corn flakes with sliced banana on top or strawberries and 2% milk. Junk food is the bad guy here and most kids will have a little. The whole family should get involved and not only eating right the family should do active things together even if it's bike riding (second hand bikes if need be), playing games, going for hikes, etc. If you aren't careful how you introduce corrective eating habits (that's the diet by Weight Watchers and portions count) very carefully your child could easily end up with an eating disorder thinking they are fat in the future when they are not. 12 year olds are extremely sensitive to anything said against them such as 'you are over weight' or 'you're not as pretty as your sister.' Sometimes parents don't realize what they are saying or doing. It should be a team effort so the 12 year old is being fed correctly, exercising without realizing it's all about them. If you child is grossly obese then you should see your family doctor. There could be a thyroid or adrenal gland problem.
No as long as they eat healthy food and exercise regularly.
no, that's a little overweight exercise and eat right
you are not at all overweight but u need to do some kind of exercise every day to maintain your figure.
Some. but nothing you can't control by diet and exercise.
NO! To stay fit, exercise is the key! Eat healthy foods and be fit!
That does sound overweight yes...I've seen some woman in their 20's weigh about 95 pounds, for a 12 year old boy that is quite worrying, should exercise a lot and eat healthy too.
And this has to with Ringo... how? GET A JUICER, MAN! THEY ARE EPIC =D
Diet and exercise. In other words, no.
Exercise will sometimes work... Unless this thirteen year old is extremely overweight (as told by a doctor), it's really best to leave them alone
No. He is not overweight.
The anser is No. I have a 7 year old who is 60 pounds and she is still not overweight.
The weight did not go on fast and it will not come off fast. But with the right eating plan and the right exercise plan, you can get it off and keep it off your entire life. Do not give up. There are going to setbacks. But there will be many more successes. Focus on those.
