Electronic cigarettes are making it possible for people to lay off of the traditional tobacco cigarettes rather easily. People who have been smoking for years say the change is relatively seamless. This is because the electronic cigarettes are designed to look and feel just like a traditional cigarette, but doesn't contain all of the harmful chemicals inside of it.

An electronic cigarette (e-cig) is a battery-operated device that vaporizes a nicotine-laced liquid solution with a small heater. E-cigs look and "smoke" like tobacco cigarettes, but require no fire/lighter, produce no smoke or ash, last much longer (~25 tobacco cigs), and can cost much less (about half price) than tobacco cigs.

The liquid used in e-cigs is generally considered safe, although nicotine is addictive. In it's most basic recipe, e-liquid contains only water, propylene glycol (an FDA-approved food ingredient), nicotine and flavoring. Liquid is also available without nicotine, and comes in a variety of flavors and strengths.

E-cigs come in two basic types: 1) disposable and 2) rechargeable. Disposable units are sold ready-to-use immediately out of the pack, but cannot be recharged once consumed. Rechargeable units are more economical in the long-term, because the batteries can be recharged and the nicotine cartridges can be replaced, which cost much less than an equivalent cigarette (about half price).

In addition to the cost benefits, e-cigs are less harmful to one's health, since they do not contain tar, carbon monoxide, or the more than 400 other harmful ingredients found in tobacco.

An electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette, is an electrical device that attempts to simulate the act of tobacco smoking by producing an inhaled mist bearing the physical sensation, appearance, and often the flavour and nicotine content of inhaled tobacco smoke. The device uses heat, or in some cases ultrasonics, to vaporize a propylene glycol- or glycerine-based liquid solution into an aerosol mist, similar to the way a nebulizer or humidifier vaporizes solutions for inhalation.
