Feudalism is an example of the governmental and social systems of the middle ages. It differed from others in that the central government was not strong and the power was delegated through a hierarchy of the nobility. This made rapid response to problems possible.

Feudalism was like other governmental systems of the Middle Ages, but with the additional twist that the central government was weak and required a hierarchy of nobility to provide stability on the local level. It was most prevalent in France and the Holy Roman Empire, but also in England of the period after the Norman Invasion,

Feudal Monarchs included King John of England, and Louis VII of France, but any of the French, German, or English monarchs of the time could be considered feudal.
