Party politics in general is a situation where politicians of a certain party will vote or act stricly according to the views of their party, regardless of the public interest.

Giving an example is of course a matter of opinion, because the politicians involved in party politics will always come up with arguments why what they do is really for the general good. But there is wide consensus that the US Republican Party's policy of blocking almost any proposal in Congress of the Democrats (including the President) - even if that means like in January 2014 that the Federal Government had to close down - is a typical example of party politics.
