This is a difficult question to answer in a public website. The atrocities that were done are so vile that it is not nice to write here. I will give you generalizations. The Jews were taken by gunpoint from their homes and packed like sardines into train cars. When the arrived a the camps they were shocked where they had been taken. They were made to strip their clothing off and given striped clothing that were barely any better than pajamas. They were then sent into long row buildings that were like long shacks with no heat or cooling methods. They had to sleep in racks jammed with sick and dying people. They were starved and beaten for anything or because the Nazis felt like it. When they became sick they were not treated. When they died or were killed by any of many nasty means they were dumped into mass graves.
If they had been taken to Auschwitz or any of the other extermination camps they would strip and be taken to have a shower. This was a trick. The shower rooms were big open rooms with gas that killed them. Then they were put in mass graves or burnt in a furnace. At Auschwitz medical experiments were conducted on them. Now these were not real medical experiments that had anything to contribute to honest, decent medical science. The people were maimed for life if they managed to live through these experiments.

The entire Nazi terror apparatus, including sections of the police, had the authority to send people to concentration camps. For example, sometimes the police decided that people with previous convictions were repeat offenders and, instead of sending them for trial, simply sent them to concentration camps.

The Devil's Arithmetic is a book written by Jane Yolen in 1988. It's a story of a Jewish girl, Hannah, experiencing the horrors of living in a Nazi Concentration Camp. The Devil's Arithmetic is 1 + 1 + 1. Which is all the days the Jews survived at the concentration camps. And 1-1-1-1 for the people that have died.
