∙ 10y agoIn terms of newspaper journalism, the editorial page of a newspaper can give weight to a particular point of view. Here is an example:
There soon will be an election for the position of Mayor of New York City. At one time in American politics, the Mayor of New York City was said to be the 2nd hardest political office in the USA.
There are several large newspapers in NYC and one, The New York Times is certainly a national paper and many readers abroad consider it to be an international source of news and comment.
The "Times" will give its support to one of the 2 major party candidates for the November 2013 election for Mayor. The editorial staff will do its best to persuade the electorate to vote for its choice for mayor by presenting persuasive arguments to support the candidate it favors.
These support comments will point out how the past public record of its candidate is a good record and why it will suit the candidate to show he will do a good job ( the 2 major candidates happen to be males )
The "Times" may leave out some good points of the other candidate and focus in why their selection is the best.
The entire paper, (not fair reporting) may and I say may report news very favorable to the papers selection and not give great coverage to the opponent.
Bottom line is that the New York Times will give persuasive arguments in their editorial pages for their selection.
