Well a 7 year old child will need the same vitamins and nutrients that an adult will need so a healthy balanced diet including vegetables and fresh unprocessed foods is a good start, especially with a minimum of saturated fat which can make children obese. Also at that age when they are growing they may need extra proteins and calcium. Make sure they eat and drink plenty of healthy option dairy products, vegetables such as spinach and broccoli which are rich with iron amongst other things and if they aren't into proper meat then try and introduce nuts as a great way to include extra proteins. Don't overload the carbs, especially processed carbs such as white bread and high sugar foods because these can give your child a sugar rush and then make them grumpy and irritable when they come down. Instead, give them more complex sugars, found in fruits and honey and wholegrains that will keep them fuller for longer but will also release sugar into the blood-stream in a slow and controlled manner. Finally, I don't subscribe to the belief that a parent should protect their child from everything "just in case" because I firmly believe that it is contributing to the growing number of children with food intolerances. Your child needs dairy products. Nuts are not bad, they're incredibly good for you. Eaten moderately, bread is an acceptable addition to any diet. One has to apply a modicum of common sense when it comes to food and variety is just as necessary as volume.
