The United Kingdom has three major political parties although only two of them dominate the political scene in the UK. They are: A. The Conservative Party. This party has the nickname of Tories. By way of recognition, Prime Minister Winston Churchhill was probably tone of the most famous Tories. For the most part they wish to keep the existing social services in the UK. On the other hand, of the major parties, the Tories lean more towards developing free enterprise companies than the others. The Tories are pro business but not anti union or a party that is against the working classes at all. In international affairs they usually, but not always support US foreign policies. B. Labour Party. This is the other major party in the UK. They were founded by a socialist faction in 1901. This party is more to the socialist side of government and its attitude towards businesses. The usually have strong labor union support and their political base is strongest among working people. They are not an "anti business" party as most of the social reforms they have created over the years have all been accomplished. They favor cooperation with the Tories as well. If a comparison is made between Labor & Tory, the Labor Party leans more to the left. They will support the United States if they believe to do so is in the interes of the UK. C. The Liberal Party. This party once had allot of influence in the UK. However, its social reforms that it supported have basically been taken over by the above mentioned Lavor Party. In comparison to the Tories & Laborites, the Liberals are a minority party, but do complete the description of the UK's political party scene.
