Most invertebrates like insects have an open circulatory system. This means that unlike in mammals like humans, the blood is not contained in veins. Waste, blood cells, oxygen, hormones, and nutrients move freely to bathe the organs. The "blood" is often called hemolymph since there is no distinction between the blood and interstitial fluid. Obviously this means that creatures with open circulatory systems do not have blood pressure and the fluid is moved through muscle contractions.
