I recommend installing your OS on your fastest drive. A Solid State drive offers best performance, but they are very expensive, You best bet for performance, budget, and capacity, is to install your OS on a 7200 rpm drive with somewhere between 500GB and 750GB, you must also consider the drives format, NTFS is the worst, it gets severely fragmented very quickly, and it's required for Windows OS, I recommend Mac OS X,
