A LAN (local area network) is a group of computers and network devices connected together, usually within the same building

A WAN (wide area network), is not restricted to a geographical location, although it might be confined within the bounds of a state or country. A WAN connects several LANs, and may be limited to an enterprise (a corporation or an organization) or accessible to the public. The technology is high speed and relatively expensive. The internet is an example of a worldwide public WAN.

Lastly, the protocols are different between a LAN and WAN. A LAN uses transmissions to other devices within the same network segment, whereas a WAN uses point to point transmissions between nodes of the WAN which may be separated by hundreds or thousands of miles.

A LAN is a local network that consists of computers and network devices that are connected together, perhaps in a work related situation. The WAN is a wide area network. A AN connects several LANS and can either be used by large corporations or the public.

1. A LAN is a data communication system within a building, plant,or campus ,or between nearby buildings. A WAN is a data communication system spanning ststes, countries, or the whole world. 2. Currently ,LAN size is limited to a few kilometers. WAN provides long-distance transmission of data, image, audio, and video information over large geographic areas. 3. LAN will use only one type of transmission medium. the most common LAN topologies are: bus, ring, star. Wireless LANs are the newest evolution in LAN technology. 4. ex of LAN: LAN in business envirnments links a workgroup of task-related computers -like-engineering workstations or accounting PCs. ex of WAN: asynchrnous transfer mde(ATM) network-which is a network with fixed size data unit packets called cells. wireless WAN

What seperates a LAN, MAN, WAN etc is actually the geographical area they cover. For example, a single computer with a mouse and a keyboard is a network, specifically a Personal Area Network or PAN. Now, technically speaking, the WAN is usually owned by an ISP which is responsible for providing high speeds and a stable connection. A "wider" network sometimes connect two smaller networks, for example a WAN can virtually connect two LANs (virtually means they are not directly connected with a single cable but they use the WAN to accomplish that).

What is the difference between a lan and a wan according to access them?

From the user's point of view, accessing a LAN or WAN is the same. If packets need to be forwarded from a LAN via a WAN connection that is taken care of automatically by the router.

How is LAN different from WAN?

LAN is internal. IE, your computer, router, modem. WAN is external, such as your computer, a server on the internet, a corporate database. Not to be confused with WLAN, which is wireless LAN

How can a Lan become a Wan?

if the LAN is connected to another LAN over a wide distance using point to point links then it becomes part of the WAN (but it doesn't become a WAN by itself).

Is it true that the major difference between lan and wan is wan a much larger network?

It all depends on perspective. If you look at it as a IP network, the difference is routers used in WAN. If you take in account DNS and other Internet services, the difference is more dramatic.

What are the differences between LAN and WAN operating systems?

No

Difference costs between LAN and wan?

WAN usually costs more. Especially, there are recurring monthly costs, since you rent the services of an ISP. Note, however, that a LAN and a WAN serve different purposes; you can't simply replace a WAN with a LAN.

What is the difference between a Wan and a Gwan?

GWAN = Gigabit WAN WAN = Wide Area Network LAN = Local Area Network WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network MAN = Metropolitan Area Network

Is the internet a LAN or WAN?

WAN. LAN is a short range connection, WAN is wide range.

Why is a WAN more suitable than a LAN?

A LAN has a limited length for distance, and for the number of clients that may be connected to it. If you exceed either, then you may need a longer connection distance, which is afforded by a WAN.

When using the world wide web are you using WAN or LAN?

Differentiate between can and wan?
