Anne Boleyn is most famous for * being the second wife of King Henry VIII who went on to have six wives, * being the mother of Queen Elizabeth I of England, * and being one of the two wives that Henry VIII beheaded. She is seen as both a sinful harlet and a martyred victim. She was known for her firy wit, her exspresive dark eyes, and her passion for the reform of the church. She was not one of the quiet obediant God-fearing girls of the sixteenth century, but a new breed of renissance women who had an opinon and wasn't afraid to say it. After her execution Henry never let any of his other wives have the power nor the influence she had. She was crowned with the crown of St Edward-the same as the ruling monarch-and would have been created regent if Henry went out of state or died. When Jane Seymour-the wife he married eleven days after Anne's death-tried to show mercy to the people of the Pilgrimage of Grace-an uprising in favor of Catholicism and against the dissolution of the monasteries-Henry reminded her of Anne's fate and that she should not 'meddle with his affairs'.
