There are 7 in the neck (cervical), 12 in the thorax (chest), and 5 in the lower back (lumbar). The wedge shaped bone in the back of the pelvis (the sacrum) is composed of 5 fused vertebrae and the the coccyx (or "tail bone") has 3-5 vertebrae.

The backbone is called the spine and is made up of 3 main parts, the top is the cervical, the middle is the thorax and the bottom section is the lumbar and it finishes with your coccyx, or tailbone.
