One of the main differences between mood and emotion can be seen in the expression. Mood is something a person may not express whereas emotions may be expressed. Another difference is that moods may last longer than the emotions.
Empathy is when someone understands another person's feelings/mood to the extent which they know personally what it feels like or close to it.

It is a mood disorder that consists of drastic mood swings, that are at both sides of the pole. Either depression or mania. Rarely in between. Hence the name, BI POLAR. Manic depression is another reference to bi-polar disorder. ( BI=both POLAR=pole )
Mood is created by several things. First, you'd have the writer's tone, which is their attitude toward the reader. If they're writing in a romantic tone, for example, you're going to get a more romantic mood. Another thing that affects the mood is the setting. An example would be a horror story set in a spooky, abandoned amusement park. The writer's style is another big mood-setter. Stories written in short, tense sentences give more of a suspenseful mood than stories with longer, more relaxed sentences.
