The Arawakian culture comprised the most populous tribe in the West Indies and North Eastern South America at the time of Columbus's discovery of the America's in 1492. They were a peaceful peoples who hunted, fished and farmed for their livelihood knowing little of war. Thus they were easily enslaved and killed by the various European nations that took over their land until today there are very few Arawak natives existing in the West Indies. However the tribes of north eastern South America are still numerous
