You need a good subfloor. If you have an old house with 1X4 boards cover with 1/2 plywood first, use lots of screws to keep out the squeeks ( 1 screw every 6" around the perimeter and every 12" in the feild) use flooring screws. If you have a newer house with aspenite floor sheathing, screw it down 1 screw evey 8" all over. Get a really good quality under pad.
One type of man-made wood is blockboard. It is made by glueing thin strips of wood from edge to edge, and then sandwiching them between veneers of wood which is then glued on under higher pressure. There is also another type called plywood.
