USMMA grads are guaranteed a job and starting salary of $55,000-90,000 working in the Maritime Industry.

However, each graduate receives an international USCG:

a.) 3rd Assistant Engineer, unlimited horsepower or

b.) 3rd Mate Unlimited Tonnage

in compliance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), as amended.

In 2013, the average starting salary was estimated (not verified) to be over $71,000 USD. The USMMA Alumni survey indicates the 10 year salary is over $200,000.

What is the U S Merchant Marine Academy?

The US Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) is one of 5 Federal Service Academies located in Kings Point, NY. All Federal Service Academies have 4 year programs and graduates will have a BS degree in Engineering. Unlike the other Academies, a USMMA Graduate can select to be commissioned in ANY OTHER military or Coast Guard commissioning program (ie, they can graduate and become a Naval Aviator, Marine Corps Infantry Officer, Air Force Special Ops Officer, or Army Infantry Officer). Over one year of the four year USMMA program is spent cruising at sea.

How many service academies can you apply to?

All 5! There is no actual limit to how many Service Academies to which you can apply, and most applicants apply to more than one. HOWEVER, there are often limits when the APPLICANT requests a Nomination -usually from a Member of Congress. Nominations are independent of the application and required for most Academies. That requirement, separate from the application is what makes being accepted to all 5 not practical. So you can APPLY to all 5 Service Academies ( USNA, USMA, USAFA, USCGA, and USMMA ), but many Members Of Congress limit their Nominations, and a Nomination is required by each Service Academy before the Applicant is offered a place at that Service Academy. So you need 4 different Nominations to be accepted to all 5 Service Academies.

Where is the best MMA gym in Rhode Island?

If you're in RI, check out: -Omoplata Academy (in Wakefield RI, they've got classes geared towards self defense, fitness, plus they have a real good BJJ squad and MMA classes, and a 30-Day FREE Trial, which is definitely worth taking advantage of!) www.objja.com -Tim Burrill's BJJ in Providence (Mainly BJJ, but many students train MMA during open mat) -Team Santos MMA in Cranston -Triforce MMA in Pawtucket (Keith and Pete are the guys who run the place, and both of them are legitimate. Keith is one of the best grapplers around.) www.triforcemma.com or a 35 minutes from Providence is USMMA (Jorge Rivera's gym) in Bellingham, Massachusetts All good schools! Battleground in E. Greenwich is the choice in RI. My reason is that Battleground is huge! Has a full free weight setup with tredmills and S bikes like 15 heavy bags 2 boxing rings an mma cage and a huge matted back room where the classes are tought. Has a BJJ program headed by a BJJ blackbelt. However what makes Battleground superior is the striking programs. Boxing training provided by curent title holder Jaime Clampitt with a few pros hanging around sparring. Mauy Thai is run by William Shultz called Mongrel Combatives and is by far the best and most legit MT in the state. Most Muay Thai in RI is converted American kickboxing but not Battleground.

How do you get appointed or accepted into the US Naval Academy?

Acceptance to any of the five federal service academies is a remarkable accomplishment. Individuals who are seriously interested in competing for a nomination should seek guidance from an individual who has been involved in the admissions process recently. In 2002 I was accepted to all five federal service academies (USNA, USAFA, USMA, USMMA, USCGA). If you are serious about being a cadet or midshipman I encourage you to immediately seek the advice of someone willing to evaluate your extra-curricular and academic record to provide you guidance geared toward your particular situation. It is very competitive to gain entrance into any of the service academies, whether you apply to West Point(Army), Annapolis(Navy & Marine Corps), the Air Force Academy, the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Ct or even the Merchant Marine Academy. You will need to be in the upper levels of your graduating class, have taken a number of science, math and computer courses, been active in extra-curricular activites or sports. A good background to have is English, Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Chemistry and Physics and computers. If you have a good academic base then you should do well. Realistically speaking, you should start applying during the early part of your junior year in high school. You will need a nomination from either your US Congressman or US Senators. The sooner you start the better your chances. An application would need to be filled out and submitted to the Naval Academy. You can get a better idea of the application process by going to www.usna.edu where you will see a list of steps to take as far as applying. Keep one thing in mind, if you do not succeed your first time around, you can still apply for the class following your original target class. There is also the Academy Prep School option as well which would be for people without strong academic backgrounds. You would spend a year in Newport, RI where you would be sent through a regimen similar to what a Plebe(freshman) at the Naval Academy would face. This would enhance your chances of admission greatly and also qualify you for a Secretary of the Navy nomination should you pass this course of instruction. Also ask if there is a Blue and Gold officer in your area as they can give you more personalized assistance into gaining admission. Good luck if you do decide to apply. It will be a most unique experience.
