Best Answer

Methane is a molecular compound with the formula CH4. It is a hydrocarbon and is the simplest of all organic substances. It's main use is as a fuel, it is the main component of natural gas. It is a toxic, hilly flammable gas that is lighter than air.

Benzene is another organic compound and hydrocarbon. It has the formula C6H6 and consists of a hexagonal ring of carbon atoms, each one bonded to a hydrogen atom. It is the simplest of the aromatic compounds. It is used as a solvent and in the production of a wide variety of chemicals. Like other hydrocarbons it is flammable. It is known to cause cancer.

Which alkane do you suggest for preparation of toluene?

Methane could be used used for preparation of toluene but not directly. First, methane is reacted with chlorine to give chloromethane and that chloromethane is reacted with AlCl3 to form CH3+ and AlCl4- . This is reacted with Benzene(C6H6). This yields toluene as CH3+ replaces a hydrogen from Benzene.
