Small game (rabbits and squirrels) and birds (turkey, ducks). I have even heard of people taking larger game like whitetail with a 16. Finding a suitable load for whatever you want to go after may be a bit difficult and expensive though.

it is not safe to fire 16 gauge shell in anything but a 16 gauge.No shells will interchange with other gauge guns since a 16 gauge shell would fit in a 12 gauge chamber, I would think you can do this.
