Best Answer

'an' is used when you have a vowel starting the word. example an apple, an owl, an iPod. 'a' is used when there is an consonant starting the words. example a computer, a phone, a Masters Degree.

so it is AN MD . as M sound has vowel beginning that is M is pronounced as {em} so..

It's not that one is better than the other; it's just that they are slightly different in approach to patient care and treatment. You must decide which of the two best matches your personal beliefs. In other words, if you believe the traditional approach is better, then the MD might be your choice. It you believe in the bodies ability to heal itself through a more holistic approach, then the DO might be something to consider.

What are you having done?

In the US, DOs receive much the same training and are required to pass the same exams as MDs, plus additional training in the specialty of osteopathy.

If it turns out that what you've really got is a musculoskeletal problem, you're right in the DO's wheelhouse. If it's a liver problem, not so much. Still, they're not necessarily lessknowledgeable about the liver than any MD who didn't specialize in it.

Historically there was a tendency for DOs to treat every problem as if it had a root musculoskeletal cause ("liver problem? we need to adjust your spine!"), but for the most part you can feel pretty confident that a properly licensed DO is capable of handling minor issues that don't involve the bones just fine.
