PS3 has a G signal, but when you purchase your wireless router you are better off getting the Wireless-N-Broadband router for future connections to other devices. PS3 also is better wired than wireless and I found the signal test of the PS3 much better wired than WiFi. I also brought my Linksys by Cisco model no WRT160N wireless router at Best Buy and later saw a much better model at Sam's Club for the same price range that Best Buy had for twice the price

No the PS3 have the same G WiFi and none have the n type. I connect with an ethernet cable and notice better results on the PS3 connectivity test speeds
G versus n wireless?
Wireless G is a much more common type of signal. Wireless N is better for gaming (eg.Xbox Live, PSN). Usually wireless N routers are more expensive. Get the one best suited for you.

There is no guarantee, but if you are lucky... Make sure that your router works in the compatibility mode (G+N). Of course the extender will be able to transmit G network signal.
Is a Netopia Router good for a PS3?
Yes it is better than many other routers that will work. The ones I see on an Amazon search in 5 different models are way better than the one I have which is just a Cisco Linksys wrt160n wireless n router. PS3 has wireless G so you are actuall going to be buying a better router than the PS3 can use with most wireless routers. Software upgrades can not change G to N or better so the PS3 can not change as a complete system to wireless n. If you are planning a wired system like I am using for the PS3 then your router purchase can be less than the Cisco-Linksys WRT160N Wireless-N Broadband Router I purchased at Best Buy on sale for $80 that is available today from Amazon.com for $47 with no taxes and free shipping. the PlayStation Sony Style shows the NETGEAR Home Theater Internet Connection Kit for the PS3 for $149.99 and available from amazon for $122.26 that uses a system to use electrical plugs instead of wires throughout your house which is also an option
