Your muffler is loose. It will become constant if not fixed soon, and may require much more work.

The passenger door can be adjusted from rattling over the bumps by adjusting the rubber nozzles. The rubber nozzles are usually located on the hatch door.?æ
Ha, lots of noise :]
According to several online dictionaries: no. It is only an adverb or adjective I would have thought so, but... >_< It depends: "rattling" can be a verb, but it is not always a verb. "Rattling" is the present participle of the verb "rattle". It is used as a verb in sentences like, "The flimsy door was rattling in the wind." It can also be used as a noun (this is called a gerund), in sentences like "The constant rattling of the screen was annoying." And, as the first answerer noted, it can be used as an adjective: The rattling windows were a sign that the wind was getting stronger. One dictionary gave "a rattling good time" as an example of using "rattling" as an adverb, but this usage is not common.

Something loose or broken. Try to determine if its when going over certain bumps or down straight smooth terrain.
No way of telling you without hearing it and seeing it. Have a trusted mechanic inspect the car for you before you get stuck on the road.
While a rattling comming from the passenger side of any vehicle could be almost any mechanical failure it could be something very simple. I know that in most 2000 Mit. Montero Sports the Jack and tire changing equipment is fastend to the floore under the back passenger seat. Sometimes in can come loose after a few bumps in the road thus making a rattling sound that would come from the passenger side. You will have to fold your seat forward (the bottom part that you sit on not the back of the seat that you lean against) and then you will see the tire changing equipment. Just check to make sure all is secured. If this is not the the problem at least you have ruled out another possibility. Hope it helps,Amanda Shreveport, LA
Hi, I had the same problem and solved it. Untie the front wheel on the passenger side, you will find the rotor protection shield hanging and hitting against the wheels when the car running, and causing this rattling sound. Remove this shield or replace it, and the sound will disappear
