By christian belief, sex is a sacred event meant for married or lawfully"by church standards" joined in union. Catholicism states sex is for procreation and is otherwise perverse. Other christian beliefs is that sex is okay, as long as its with a lawful partner of the opposite sex, by law meaning a union of holy ceremony ordained by a priest, not a government judge.

"…God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" (Genesis Ch 1). "Know that the LORD is God! It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." (Psalm 100) Scripture therefore makes clear that from the beginning God retained ownership rights in respect of human beings for Himself alone. It follows that it is contrary to God's Law to appropriate to ourselves ownership rights in respect of human beings or the process through which human beings are made or to deny that God made us male and female.

(1 Corinthians 6:9, 10) However, in some Pacific cultures, such practices might become acceptable if the girl claims that she has been "green leafed," that is, she says that she has been impelled to have sex because of a spell placed on her.

The Bible, however, teaches that we are responsible for our actions. Virginity for the Kingdom of Heaven is one of the evangelical counsels. Saint Paul says that it is the best possible state, more perfect still than marriage, because it means complete dedication to God. Celibacy is seen as a sign that points to Christ because, as well as being an imitation of St. Paul, St. John and the Virgin Mary (at least according to the Catholic Church), it is following the footsteps of Christ Himself, who dedicated Himself entirely to His ministry and did not take a wife.

Any gift from God, should not be abused. Eating and drinking wine are gifts from God. But mis-use of those gifts (gluttony & drunkenness) is condemned by God.

Throughout history countless devout men and women, in many different religions, have chosen to be celibate. Why? In many cases it was because they believed that fleshly, material things were "the seat of evil." This engendered the philosophy that spiritual purity was only possible through abstaining from all sexual activity. This, however, is not the Bible's view. In the Bible, marriage is seen as a clean, holy gift from God. The Genesis account of creation clearly portrays marriage as "good" in God's eyes and obviously not as a barrier to a spiritually pure relationship with God. (Genesis 1:26-28, 31; 2:18, 22-24)

While highly esteeming marriage, the Bible certainly does not condemn singleness if it is freely chosen. The Bible recommends it as a desirable course for some. (1 Corinthians 7:7, 8) Jesus Christ said that some men and women deliberately choose a course of singleness. (Matthew 19:12) Why? Not because there is something inherently impure about marriage that would hinder their spiritual development. They choose this course simply to focus their efforts on doing God's will in what they perceived to be urgent times.
