What is krumping?

Krumping was created in 1992 in South Central Los Angeles by Thomas Johnson. Thomas was a former convict that was committed to changing his life around after he was released. Because of his fun and high spirited personality a co-worker asked him to be a clown for a birthday party. Thomas Johnson became Tommy the Clown and used his hip-hop dance moves to entertain the children. He called this form of dance clowning. Soon Thomas realized that he had influence on the kids and decided to use clowning as a way to deter them from violence and drugs. He later started a dance crew called the Hip Hop Clowns that performed with him at birthday parties. He required that all the members of his crew did well in school, stay away from drugs and gangs, and act as positive role models to others. So many kids wanted to join the Hip Hop Clowns that Tommy began to encourage them to form their own crews. Each crew claimed to be the best so in 2002 Tommy began to invite the crews to battle. This is when the term krumping was first used. They called it krumping because the moves were too rough for clowning. Battle Zone was then created to give an outlet to the argument of "whose krumping or clowning was the best." According to Tommy, krumping is when your body is doing a lot of different moves while dancing. It looks like you're fighting on the dance floor. It has a fast pace with a lot of sharp moves

How did they come up with the idea of clowns?

They felt like it! Plls were bored at circuses, so they came up with clows. I would think that the last word meant clowns! Circus is supposed to be a light family show with exciting talented artistes. Two hours of such a show may become boring (the same applies to any performance unless the subject is clear - like grand opera that a lot of people find a bore!) The point then, all shows must have a comic break of some kind and it need not be clowning, I have seen some great comedy acts in circus but good clowning and particularly clown troupe entries that comprise of more than one perhaps many can be great comedy. Billy Smart's Circus toured 24 clowns of all kinds.

How do you become a clown?

Being a clown is partly acting and partly being who you are. You have to want to be a clown and you have to want to make people happy. If that fits you, there are several ways to learn clowning: 1. On your own, practicing at any gathering or event that will let you. Going on line or to the library for information that will be useful. 2. Join an organization that will train you for their specific purposes such as groups that entertain at hospitals, schools, churches, or old age facilities. 3. Enroll in a professional clown school for thorough professional training.

Clowns are scary?

to some people yes they are portrayed as a scary creature. Clowns are also used to scare young children in horror stories. I remember as a kid my mom used to tell me a clown would get me if i didn't go to bed. But, yes mostly clowns are scary but some are the silly things we used to see at fairs when we were younger

Are clowns evil?

They should not be scary! Or are you suggesting that Stan Laurell was scary? Clowning should be for children up to the age of eight years and have friendly silly make up and clothing - with great artistic abilities.
