There are many ham radio clubs around the world. When you become a member of a local ham club, you would be considered a club ham radio operator.

There are clubs that have a repeater that they own and/or maintain. The club would have it's own call sign with the repeater.

The term 'ham' in ham (or amateur) radio comes from before radio was ever invented; it was used in wire telegraphy to denote an unskilled or inefficient telegraph operator. The original meaning has been completely lost since the term's adoption by amateur radio operators, and no longer implies the operator is an idiot.

Can a group of NONE ham licensed people use ham radios under a licensed operator. For example in a parking detail?

It's possible for a non-ham to speak on a radio of a ham under supervision. That means the ham has to be at the "control point", or the locality where the action (talking) is taking place. But a non-ham couldn't say, be across the parking lot from him/her and use a ham radio.

How vhf radio works?

A "ham" (amateur) radio station consists of two essential functional blocks inaddition to the licensed human operator ... a radio transmitter and a radio receiver. The ultimate purpose of the package is 2-way communication with anotheramateur station that is similarly equipped.Except in certain few specially-authorized cases, one-way 'broadcast' transmissionis not permitted, so a typical communication follows this format:-- By means of radio transmission, Operator 'A' announces his desire to establishcommunication with another licensed ham (amateur) radio station. Operator 'A'then silences his transmitter, and listens to his receiver.-- By means of his own radio transmitter, Operator 'B' responds to Operator 'A',then suspends his transmission and listens to his own receiver.-- Operator 'A' responds to Operator 'B'. He informs Operator 'B' of his name andlocation, possibly describes his radio equipment briefly, and tells Operator 'B' howwell or poorly his signal is being received.-- Operator 'B' then delivers the same information to Operator 'A'.-- At the mutual option of both operators, they may end their communication atthis point, or they may continue it for many hours, discussing their mutualinterests in certain technical minutiae of radio communication, their other hobbies, their occupations, their station in life and career, their families, their vacations, their literary and musical interests, religion, political tendencies, tastes in food andfine wine, etc. Exactly like two individuals who meet in a bar or on a train, exceptthat these two may be separated by half of a world, and have met on ham radio. And that's how ham radio works.

Does ham mean village?

You are thinking of a "hamlet" which does mean a small village. But the word "ham" often refers to a food that comes from a pig; or it can be a slang word that means a person who is a show-off and acts in a conceited way; or it can refer to somebody who is involved in the hobby of amateur radio-- such a person is called a "ham radio operator."

Was Robert rowlands of the bank job fame a ham or a pirate radio operator on the 11mtr band?

He was not a pirate operator. He was only using a receiver and trying to tune in radio Luxembourg. There is a nice article here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-515138/FOUND-Radio-Hams-sensational-tape-bank-heist-rescued-compromising-pictures-Princess-Margaret.html The article states that he was a ham; but at the time he was just acting as a shortwave listener.
