For instance, Honda manufactures engines whihc are their core product. COre products are later used for developing products for end-user consumtion. Honda's engines are used for developing cars, and household machinery. This additions are the augmented elements of the product, which bring a further benefit to the use of the particular product.
The product itself basically makes it a core product to the company. If the product is something people find necessary or a must have then that product then becomes the core product because it sells and makes money.

A watch can be used as an example. The formal product could be whether the watch is leather or metal, battery-operated, etc. The core product would be the more abstract reasoning as to selecting a watch: status appeal, knowledge of time, style/fashion, gifting, etc.
