Ireland is a relatively safe country. There are gangs and gangland murders. There are robberies, drug dealing, smuggling etc. There are homicides and other kinds of crimes, but not a lot compared to many countries. While any crime is too much crime, Ireland is certainly not a high-risk country. In January 2013 a policeman was shot while on duty. The last time a policeman on duty was shot before that was in June 1996. So that gives you some idea of the low levels of crime. Another indication is that the regular police are not armed, only special units of the police are. Someone visiting Ireland could be unlucky and get robbed, but the vast majority of tourists and residents have not problems.

Ireland has the same kinds of bad things that all countries have. Things like crime, bad weather, people in poverty, illnesses, car accidents etc., are all things that happen in Ireland. Ireland isn't as bad in those things as some countries, so it has less crime and poverty than some countries, and its weather isn't the worst in the world, and it has lots of good weather too. It is not a bad country.
