There are many different recipes but the general one is confectioners sugar, a dash of salt, butter and vanilla. You substitute cream cheese for the butter for a cream cheese frosting or use a different extract for the vanilla ie.. almond, peppermint. Or you can add cocoa to make a chocolate one. Oh and add a bit of milk, a little at a time, until you get the consistency you want.
For the sponge you use:
100grams of self raising flour
100grams of caster sugar
100grams of butter
2 eggs
For the topping you can use:
Glacé icing
Water
Icing sugar
Butter cream
Butter
Icing sugar
Frosting
Icing sugar
Milk, alcohol or any other types of liquid.
You can always add a table spoon of cocoa for a chocolate flavour.
This recipe makes 12 cupcakes.
It is hard to say because there are so many different mixes... chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and so on.
I am a big fan of making them from scratch so you KNOW what is in them. If the recipe happens to call for a box of "cake mix" you can always use a cake mix substitute like the one in the link.
