It is called as latent heat of fusion. When a solid changes to liquid or liquid changes ,when it attains the melting point (or boiling point), the heat get used up changing the state of matter, overcommig the force of attraction between the particles. As the heat is used up without showing change in temperature,it is bileaved to be hidden in the contents of the beaker and is called 'latent heat of fusion

Also when a liquid changes to a gas at the boiling point there is no temperature change. The is the latent heat of vaporization. This fact is what makes water such an ideal substance to use in cooking. The water starts to boil, and until all water boils away the food will not 'burn'.

Which term is defined as the change is physical state from liquid to gas at the surface of a liquid?

The change from liquid to gas at the surface of a liquid is known as vaporization.

To change or cause to change from liquid to solid state?

Decreasing the temperature a liquid become a solid.

What process causes changes of state?

In a word, temperature. A physical change will change the matter's state based on it's temperature. For example, water, H2O. You can increase the temperature to 212oF and it will change state from a liquid to a gas. You can decrease the temperature to 32oF and it will change state from a liquid to a solid. To answer your question, the process of doing so would be increasing or decreasing temperature of matter.
