Nissan needed to recruit 800 high-calibre manufacturing staff for a new plant, and evaluated approximately 5,000 applicants over a 22 week period. Candidates underwent basic aptitude tests to assess for verbal, mechanical and numerical computation skills as well as the DSI. Six months post-recruitment, line managers were asked to complete a performance rating questionnaire for their new recruits. Employees who scored in the highest third on the DSI were twice as likely to be rated by managers as having good teamwork skills. The results also indicated that high scoring employees were notably less likely to be rated by managers as accident prone.

VODAPHONE

275 Vodafone Customer Service employees completed DSI self-assessments and were also rated by their managers on client focus, reliability and complying with company policies and procedures. 60% of these were female and 40% male, with an age range from 18 to 64 years.
