White is not a colour. It is sensed only by human eye. Actually white is a composite of many colours. Such a composite white light could be spilit up by using a triangular prism. This splitting of composite white light into its constituent colours is called dispersion.
Absortption is when the light is taken in by a substance and transformed into another type of energy. Scattering is when light is reflected at random angles from a surface. Dispersion is when white light separates into its constituent wavelengths because it is being refracted by different amounts, e.g. when it passes through a prism.
the splitting of light into its different components (ROYGBIV) is called dispersion of light.
eg: a prism is used to disperse light into its different components.
dispertion of white light is a splitting or separation of white light into its coloured components.
Light slows down when it travels through a medium like air or glass, but different wavelengths slow down in different amounts. This is called dispersion.
Dispersion of white refers to the splitting or separation of a ray of white light into seven colors. This is what a prism does.
example of dispersion of light
That's " dispersion ".
The width of the aperture through which light is passing should be comparable to the wavelength of that light.
Not much because the light has to travel a distance in the medium with a different refractive index in order for the dispersion to become obvious. If you look very closely you will see some dispersion but it may be microscopic.
the three types of dispersion are: 1. Intermodal Dispersion 2. Chromatic Dispersion 3. Waveguide Dispersion
