There is only one way to replace the bulbs. Twist the tube 90 degrees and remove from end sockets. Slide the tubes into the sockets and turn 90 degrees. Turn the fixture on and the job is done.

You live in a cold climate If you replace incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs how do you replace the loss heat from those bulbs that heated up your home?

You're replacing the bulbs to lower your electricity bill? There's no way to replace the heat loss. If you buy an electric heater your monthly bill will be higher. You have to decide whether you can adapt to the heat loss by wearing a sweater indoors. If not, you might decide not to switch bulbs.

Change the Light Bulbs!?

Still using incandescent light bulbs? If so, you're wasting electricity and your electric bill will no doubt show it. Fluorescent lighting is far from new, but the way the bulbs are shaped, is. There was a time when you couldn't buy a fluorescent light bulb to fit many existing lamps and fixtures. Someone must have heard us complain, because now you can find fluorescent bulbs in almost any shape and size. A simple and effective way to watch your electric bill go down measurably is to simply change light bulbs from incandescent to fluorescent.

What is the voltage of fluorescent light bulbs?

Fluorescent light bulbs can not be connected to a constant voltage power supply, or they will self destruct. They must use a ballast in order for this not happening. This way they can operate under 430 mA, with a drop of 100 volts. The larger the bulb, the more voltage needed (going all the way up to 1.5 A).

Can you upgrade to T5 fluorescent bulbs but not replace the fixture?

Since T5 bulbs are shorter than their T12 or T8 counterparts, they do not naturally fit into fixtures designed for T12 or T8 bulbs. Luckily, there are companies that offer retrofit kits that can allow you to use T5 bulbs in fixtures not designed for them. A company called Lumiversal makes two different types of these retrofits. These retrofits are a great way to save money and electricity plus you can rebates and incentives from your utility providers to help cover the cost.
