It is converted into acetaldehyde(what causes the hang over&the addiction to alcohol) then to acetic acid(harmless vinegar) then to acetyl-coA then to carbon dioxide & water(through TCA cycle) .....energy(ATP) is emitted in the process then usually this "energy" is used to produce glucose...the process is faster in men than women and its exhausting to the liver ...so cut back on the booze ,even better not to drink at all.
