What actors and actresses appeared in Falasha - 1983?

Are the Falasha Jews the original Jews?

On the evidence, no, although traditional beliefs among the Falasha Jews is that they are from the tribe of Dan. A 1999 study of the DNA of 38 unrelated Beta Israel (Falasha Jew) males living in Israel and 104 Ethiopians living in regions located north of Addis Ababa demonstrated that the male ancestry of Falasha Jews was from Ethiopia, not Palestine. A 2002 study of Mitochondrial DNA (which is passed through only maternal lineage to both men and women) showed that the most common mtDNA type found among the Ethiopian Falasha sample was present only in Somalia. Thus the female ancestry of Falasha Jews was also not from Palestine. The ancestors of Falasha Jews were converts to the religion.

What are the practices of the Falasha Jews?

The term "Falasha" is an insult, and should be avoided. These people are called Beta Yisrael, and nearly all of them now live in Israel and have adopted Israeli Jewish practices.

Who were the Falasha and how did they preserve their culture?

Jewish Ethiopians. The Falasha call themselves House of Israel and claim descent from Menilek I, son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. Probably descended from local Agew peoples converted by Jews in southern Arabia, they remained faithful to Judaism after the Ethiopian kingdom was converted to Christianity in the 4th century . Persecuted by Christians, they settled in the area around Lake Tana in northern Ethiopia. Though ignorant of the Talmud, members adhered strictly to the Mosaic law and observed some festivals of Judaism.

Are ethiopians Jews?

Some of them are. The Falasha of Ethiopia self-identify as Jews and have many Jewish traditions. There's plenty of evidence of small groups of Jews fleeing south into Africa after various disruptions. The Lemba, a group spread across southern Africa, has both oral history and genetic arguments to show that they are connected to a group of Yemenite Jews who fled south during a war in that region. The Ethiopian community is older, its folklore is less clear, but they have more Jewish traditions. There are some who hold that Ethiopia as a whole was Christianized and that today's Ethiopian Jews originated as a Judaizing sect of Christians. The Falasha reject this theory out of hand.

Are African Americans the lost tribe of is real?

It is unlikely that African Americans are a lost tribe of Israel. Perhaps some African Americans have ancestry from the middle east. We know, for example, that the Lemba tribe that is dispersed in a large area of Southern Africa has at least some ancestors who were Yemenite Jews, and we know that the Falasha of Ethiopia have traditions that mark them as Jewish. It is a huge leap from the fact that some sub-saharan Africans have Jewish ancestry to the assertion that all sub-saharan Africans are descended from a lost tribe.

Which group in the Jewish community only follow the Torah?

There are several levels here:Most modern Jews, including Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Jews, follow the Torah as interpreted by thousands of years of commentators. We (I am one) have a huge volume of text surrounding the Torah, including the Prophets, the Writings, the Talmud, and the rabinnic tradition down to the present day.The Karaites broke off from the rest of the Jews over the issue of the Talmud. They have the Torah, Prophets and Writings, but they reject the past 2000 years of rabinnic development. The Ethiopian Jews (Falasha) also do not have the Talmud in their tradition, and they are missing other material. I know the least about them, except to note that Ethiopian Jews who have gone to Israel have generally adopted modern Judaism with little difficulty. The Samaritans separated from the rest of the Jewish community about the time of the Babylonian Exile, over 2500 years ago. They have the Torah and reject all the later Jewish literature, including the Prophets and Writings.

Is it right to recognize Haile Sellassie as the king of kings the lords of lords the conquering lion of the tribe of Judah?

Ethiopia is part of a Semitic world - Amharinya is a Semitic language, and the Amharic people may have migrated from Yemen, just across the Red Sea. There may even have been a Jewish presence (as there was in Arabia ) long before the coming of Christianity. For centuries a small group of Amharic people, the Falasha, have described themselves as Jewish. When the Zagwe dynasty was overthrown in 1270 CE, the new dynasty was anxious to stress its legitimacy. In the Kebra Negast (The Glory of the Kings), they emphasised the descent of the kings from King Solomon, with the legend of Sheba returning to her Ethiopian realm pregnant with Solomon's son, Menelik I.Whether or not Haile Sellassie could really trace his lineage all the way back to 1270, there was certainly a tradition among both Jews and Christians of Ethiopia to see their kings as descended from the legendary King Solomon of Israel. The grandiose titles reflect this.

What is the difference between Zionist and Sephardic Jew?

Answer 1Zionism is the Jewish desire to live in our ancestral homeland. Although there is a secular/political variant of zionism, religious zionism is a part of Judaism so there is no difference.Answer 2Zionism is the belief that the Jews should have political self-sovereignty and is the patriotic sentiment behind the Establishment of the State of Israel. It is entirely political in nature and largest number of Zionists are Christians.Judaism is a religion that recognizes the Torah as its holy book and follows traditions of Divine Origin that are established and interpreted by Rabbis. Judaism has both a religious and ethnic component.
