Great white sharks are often found off the coast of Australia and also the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. They typically feed (I believe during the Fall/Winter season) off the Farallon Islands which are off the coast of San Francisco.

Santa Catalina Island. There are a number of islands out there, from about 20 miles to nearly 40 miles, but many of them are nature preserves, and San Clemente Island is a US Navy bombing range. The only island that has a song about it is Santa Catalina Island.
