Is firewalking fraud or science?
It's science and technique The firelane should be built, tended and prepared correctly to ensure that it is safe to walk on. unfortunately there are too many firewalk providers who focus on their own ego and money who fail to build safe scientists have attempted to prove their theories by building their own firewalks with painful results not all firewalks are the same, before taking part do your research, ask for videos of previous firewalks to see if it is the kind of firewalk you want to take part in Safety should always be the priority
Do your feet need to be wet when you walk on hot coals?
No. In actuality, that would quite probably increase the risk of serious burns. You see, during a "normal" firewalk, the feet don't normally remain in contact with the hot coals long enough to transfer a dangerous amount of heat; that's why you'll see firewalkers moving at a pretty decent clip. Running causes the burning embers to stick TO the feet - giving them much longer skin contact and thus much more transference of heat. (Ever been dripped on by hot wax, or anything of the sort? The fact that it adheres to you while burning increases the burn.) Water on the feet would provoke the same effect; the coals would stick to your feet, instead of letting your feet just pass over them. (and 'toughen them up with a lighter'? Seriously? I hope no one took that to heart-!)
What technique should you use whiles firewalking?
When you do a firewalk (Walking on Hot Coal), the best way is to walk as you would down the street. This is because their's a reduction of time from full body and foot contact onto the coal itself then if you ran. Whiles normal walking you spend 0,9 second of foot contact and 0.5 second full body force onto the ground. If you ran on Hot Coal, your foot would dig into the coal and cause a possible 2nd Degree Burn.
