it is lame in the hoof
Horses don't get flounder, they get founder.
iflammation in the lamine of the hoof
Horses get founder by overeating for a long time (or being sevearly overweight), a sign of founder are if there neck looks like it is falling (fallen crest) if you think your horse has foundered go to the vet immediatly
I think you mean foundie - either Newfoundland ponies or foundation horses - someone's first horse, a horse of which parents are gaia and ouranos
The word you want is FOUNDER (No L in it). Founder is when the sensitive laminae of the hoof begins or completely seperate. Mild founder will lay a horse up for awhile, but severe founder can take a year or more to heal (if it ever does) Many times the cause is illness, high fever and sometimes injury. A lot of horses will founder after colic. Flounder is a FISH
founder is when the horse has been in a muddy place for a while and it causes them to get laminitis which is also called foundering. Founder can also be caused by stress or a illness.
A horse can founder on just about any kind of grass. But spring grass is particularly rich and green. It can actually make your horse's body temperature rise a little. With the occasional exception, most horses need to be monitored closely when on rich pasture of feed.
Hay is the basis of a diet for horses. Grain is technically supplemental for working horses, mares in foal, stallions, etc. A horse should be able to get all of its nutrients from hay, and if its not, that's when you supplement. But like they said, oats can cause founder so it should really be fed in moderation. alfafa hay....for the average horse, grains are very hot and can founder a horse if not used properly and in propotion....
Horses have a tolerance for gluten, but it is very starchy and can cause Laminitis/Founder and other health problems to arise.
In horses the pancreas is located directly below the stomach (ventral to the stomach). It's connected to the first part of the small intestine (the duodenum).
There are many things that can set in motion the process of laminitis. Any shock to the horse's system can result in founder. Some mares will founder after giving birth. An overly hot horse allowed to drink too much cold water can also be a cause. The more common causes are overeating on too rich food. Spring grass is much too rich for some horses. Other times too much grain or sweet feed. Any person that knows about horses has heard stories of unlocked feed rooms that are a magnet to hungry horses. Prevention is always the best way to go. Keep feed locked away, limit your horse on green lush pastures, cool your horse down before allowing him too much water. Some horses are more prone to this condition, ponies are usually the most vulnerable, so use good sense and you can reduce the risk of founder.
Any hay can founder a horse, it is not what the horse eats but how much it eats. Some feed can founder a horse faster than others. Peanut hay is one of those.
