Maki sushi or makizushi is rolled into a tube and then cut into circles. This is the most common sushi you see.
Hand roll sushi or temaki is a whole piece of seaweed wrapped around the ingredients in the shape of a cone. These are left as is and are not cut into smaller pieces like the maki sushi it.
There are many types of sushi; Nigiri -Sushi (hand shaped sushi), Oshi-Sushi (pressed sushi), Maki-Sushi (rolled sushi) and Chirashi-sushi (scattered sushi).

Nori (a.k.a. laver) is a paper like, edible, toasted seaweed used in most kinds of sushi. The nori is actually the part that holds the sushi together.
Sushi is normally wrapped in nori, a green seaweed. There are items sold in some sushi places that are wrapped in a translucent material. This is rice paper and is edible, though it is not traditionally used in sushi.

Rice & Nori Aka Kelp.
Nori is a consumable seaweed. It is often used in sushi dishes, wrapped around the raw fish.
Nori itself is roasted seaweed, usually sold only as "sushi nori" in sheets outside of Japan. So ground nori are fine, almost powder-like flakes made from this. I'm not entirely sure if it's the exact same thing, but if you can't find it I guess you could grind some sushi nori sheets yourself to make this.
Rice with rice vinegar and sugar, and seaweed (called nori in Japanese) are the two staples of sushi. Common sushi fillings are vegetables and fish.

You may be familiar with nori as the wrapping for sushi. You can also enjoy it as is, toast it, or even make a paste out of it to serve over rice or pasta.
