HIPPA stands for Health Information Privacy and Portability Act

HIPPA basically says that your health information can't be shared with anyone without your written consent or permission (except in the case of a court order). HIPPA also gives you the right to get copies of your medical records from your doctor.

The only context I have heard "hippa" used was mistakenly for the HIPAA regulations in the US, which stand for, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). This regulation basically gave employees privacy rights with the uses and disclosures of their health care information.
