Somebody preparing a homeopathic solution, for example to treat hay fever, would take the substance causing the reaction (or a similar reaction) and dilute it. The mystery of homeopathy is that the solution is so diluted that the chance of actually having even a molecule of the diluted substance is basically zero. Chances are, somebody drinking a homeopathic solution is just drinking water (or whatever the substance was disolved in). For this reason, many scientists attribute the success of homeopathy to the placebo effect, even though homeopathy has shown to be more effective than the placebo effect.
