that the universe is expanding(: YouR WelomE
The Hubble telescope did not discover that there is a red shift in the spectra of Galaxies. The telescope is named after the American astronomer, Edwin Hubble, who discovered the phenomenon in the 1920s.
expanding
either starlight spectra or moving galaxies.

They have broad emission lines of highly ionized elements.
The Doppler effect changes the position of well-known lines.
shifted towards the red end of the spectrum
have wavelengths that are longer than normal:)
This redshift is a strong indication that the Universe is expanding. The only reasonable explanation of this redshift is the Doppler effect, and this means that the galaxies are moving away from us. The greater their distance from us, the faster they move away.
Galaxies are moving away from each other in a constantly expanding universe
