What is important about Hubble discovery that there is a red shift in the spectra of galaxies?

that the universe is expanding(: YouR WelomE

Why does the red shift of galaxies provide evidence that the universe is expanding?

It means that the light from galaxies is losing energy. The only reasonable explanation for this is the cosmoligical redshift - that is, that the Universe is expanding.

What did the discovery of background radiation distributed evenly throughout the universe provide support for?

either starlight spectra or moving galaxies.

All the stars and galaxies are in this?

The Universe.

Evidence that the universe is expanding is best provided by the?

The main piece of evidence is the redshift of galaxies. In spectroscopy an absorption line that is redshifted indicates that the object is moving away. The farther the object is from the source of observance the faster that object travels in relation to the observer. Almost all galaxies are redshifted as opposed the our local neighborhood, the Andromeda Galaxy for instance is blueshifted because it is heading strait for us. at some point all galaxies will spread so far from each other that they will be going so fast that they reach the speed of light in respect to our position and are never seen again. Another piece of evidence is the fact that their is some warmth in space. Also known as the Cosmic background radiation. Empty Space is around 2.7 degrees kelvin which is the residual heat from the big bang. Had their not have been an explosion with a massive amount of heat and energy and everything simply was, then empty space would be absolute zero. This is the two strongest arguments that support the big bang theory.

American astronomer Edwin Hubble later interpreted this discovery as evidence that?

Galaxies are moving away from each other in a constantly expanding universe.

Which of these facts is the best supporting evidence that the universe is expandingThe stars vary in chemical composition The galaxies can spin to form eddies. The universe is filled with galaxies of?

None of them. The best evidence is the redshift.

What the difference between universe and galaxies?

A universe is a very big realm of darkness with galaxies in it. and there are billions of galaxies in the universe! One of those galaxies is our solar system, and in that solar system is our planet. There probably is even more then just one univserse. O_o Well... Galaxies are within the universe and a universe is defintly bigger then a galaxy

Are there other galaxies in your universe?

there is only 1 universe and their is billions of galaxies in it !

Is the universe contained in the galaxy?

The universe contains countless galaxies, think of the universe as a galaxy of galaxies.

What evidence can you cite that the universe is flat How does that compare to previous beliefs about the universe?

The universe isn't flat. It is 3-Dimensional time and space. Galaxies are depicted as being donut shaped and flat

Why do astronomers theorize that most of the matter in galaxies and clusters of galaxies is dark matter?

most of the mass in a cluster of galaxies is invisible, which provides astronomers with the strongest evidence that the universe contains a great amount of DARK MATTER
