Nitrogenous fertilizer makes most growth but a balanced fertilizer is required to control growth.

Caution: Some plants either produce their own nitrogen or obtain it from other sources. Carnivorous plants can be killed by too much nitrogen in the soil as they eat insects to collect nitrogen along with other nutrients while some vines and all clovers produce their own nitrogen in the soil and don't benefit at all from it being added to the soil.
