It's a standard J hook wiper, check the owners manual, it has a picture on how you release the clip. The flat style blades are available from several after market manufacturers. I know RainX makes some.

I use rain x year round . In the winter it does not help keep ice off my Windows . So it won't help keep it off in the freezer.

they could be old and cracked.if their new they may not be slick enough,buy a can of rainx it should fix it. I remember getting a "factory recall notice" about the wipers (which I did not take advantage of) and have the same problem occasionally. I am planning on replacing the wiper motor.

I recently changed my rear wiper, for the first time, on my 2003 Outlander. After first trying Autozone, I found out that although you can buy front wipers made by other manufacturers -such as Bosch or RainX - the rear wiper can only be bought from Mitsubishi . You have to order it from a dealer.
Does rain-x damage your windshield wipers?
Since its a silicone-based product that sits on top of the glass, it does come off over time and can end up on the wiper blade affecting performance. There is an alternative to rainx on the market called Trico View (formerly Aquapel) that actually bonds to the glass and thus doesn't come off the glass and onto the wiper blades. Aquapel Glass Treatment consists of fluorinated compounds which create a chemical bond with glass surfaces, causing water to bead up and roll off. Because of this chemical bond with glass, Aquapel is reported to last much longer than silicone-based rain repellents.
Other than changing the replacement blade what can you check to help clear water from the windshield on 1998 Ford Windstar?
There might be a wax build-up on the glass. Someone suggested once to VERY GENTLY use a kitchen "soft-scrub" on the windshield. Option B: mix up a strong vineager / water combination and maybe even a bug remover type sponge. The vineager I have also used RainX. One last note: at the first sign of smearing I'm putting in the new wiper refills. Finally learned to just spend the $5 to avoid the extreme irritation, and also unsafe worn wipers! :)
