A "sidereal" day on a planet is how long it takes to rotate completely around on its axis. Here on Earth, it takes roughly 23hours 56 minutes to rotate completely.

A "solar day" on Earth lasts 24 hours. Its not quite the same as

the rotation period, because the Earth's orbit has a small effect on the solar day length.

On Mercury and Venus there's a big difference between the two day lengths.
