The idea for a beehive fence was initially inspired by the need to protect crops from elephants in areas where human-wildlife conflict is prevalent. Farmers in Africa discovered that the presence of beehives along their fields could deter elephants, as these animals are naturally afraid of bees. The innovative approach not only provides a barrier against elephants but also generates honey, offering an additional source of income for farmers. This dual benefit has made beehive fences an effective and sustainable solution for wildlife management.
An Elephant is the only animal that cannot jump. But they could push their way through fences.
