I have found that all 1999 Beetles are pre-wired for 6 disc changer. The wire is tuked away behind a small square plastic panel. This panel is located in the trunk on the left iner panel. Pop off the small access panel and you will see a female end. Now go to your local junk yard and find a changer and mounting bracket. You will have three holes under the carpet which the bracket mounts to. The changer just plugs into the wire you found behing the panel. Now your jaming....Sean

Why? Very bad idea. Why is it a bad idea? Old cars did not have a safety switch. One plus to removing the switch is you can "run" the starter to move the car out of trouble. One example would be if you were stuck on a rail road track. When I was in drivers ed they taught us exactly that. to bypass there should be a cover over your gear selector pull that off and you will see a plastic Philips head bolt, take that out(youl need pliers) and push the screwdriver into the hole youl feel it press down on something and that is your neutral safety switch, it is a very bad idea for the exact reason above but i thought id let you know how, make sure to get it replaced soon when they start jaming like this its a sign they are either gone or going.

Tap the top of the clip with small hammer to close the gap where shell goes into it . Do a couple taps then test fire, repeat until it stops jamming lorcins are know for this problem and my neighbor was a gunsmith , he told me about this and I have had no issues since.
