For example, when Scout comes home complaining about her teacher at school or their nasty neighbor, Atticus tries to listen to her point of view bu then explain to her what is right. Also, for punishments, Atticus will make the children do things that teach them a lesson, such as having to read to the nasty neighbor everyday. The children respect Atticus, but have trouble seeing him as a strong or heroic figure because of his age.
