When you are learning a craft, you are an apprentice. When you have learned enough to travel, to go out and work for yourself, you are a Journeyman. When a journeyman has enough experience to teach their craft to another, they have become a Master.
Journeymen
In a union shop, there are three levels of workers: apprentices, who are being trained in their trade; journeymen, who are proficient; and master tradesmen, who train apprentices and advise journeymen. I also found out journeymen were once called jacks.

the Willet Family has written: 'The rowing journeymen'
Journeymen were workers who had been through apprenticeship but not yet finished a masterwork and achieved the status of master. It was not uncommon for them to move from one town or city to another, working with a number of masters to learn what they could from each. They were not called journeymen because of travelling, but from a French word, journee, implying that they could charge a fee for each day's work.
last year most of my journeymen netted over $145,000
Sheetmetal Journeymen payscale is $20.85.
Journeymen may seek extra training and experience to become Master Tradesmen.
