There are four books in the New Testament known as "the gospels". In Roman Catholic tradition, they are considered the heart of The Bible, because they tell us about the birth, life, mission, death and resurrection of Jesus.
In Catholic liturgy, use may sometimes made of a book that contains only the four gospels and not the rest of the bible or even the rest of the New Testament. This book would be called a Book of Gospels.
